Super Typhoon Champi

China and the Far East are set to be struck by another Typhoon this coming week. This could cause major disruptions across Chinese Ports.

On 22nd October, the Super Typhoon, which formed in the western Pacific ocean, has been moving North towards the island of Taiwan, with winds of 198kmph. As of 5am on 22nd October, the super typhoon was 750km south of the city of Taipei.

Forecasts predict it will enter the south China Sea on Friday night before turning North, then North East near Zhejiang on Saturday before moving to the South West of Japan.

Heavy torrential rains are expected in Shanghai, Fujian and Zhejiang from 23rd to 26th of October.

Port Restrictions and closures are expected across many major ports across China with Ningbo-Zhoushan and Wenzhou being among many to be closed.

Previous Typhoons caused severe delays to container shipping with over 2 million TEU of containership capacity being affected. Average berthing time for vessels increasing significantly, waiting on average four days.

⚠️ What could this mean for your cargo?

🔹 Port congestion: Weather-related restrictions could create additional vessel backlogs at key Chinese ports.
🔹 Shipping delays: Vessel arrivals, departures and scheduled port calls may be affected.
🔹 Container movements: Disruptions could impact container availability, collection arrangements and onward connections.
🔹 Supply chain pressure: Delays at origin could have knock-on effects for deliveries and inventory planning.

🌍 Planning ahead makes the difference.
At Trinity Logistics Limited, we understand how quickly changing conditions can affect international freight movements.
We encourage businesses with shipments moving through China to remain alert to potential schedule changes, allow flexibility in their shipping plans and stay in close communication with their logistics partners.
