UK Storm Season

The UK has now officially entered its storm season for the 2026-2027 period. Over this period, there may be delays across UK Ports.

Over the last week, the UK saw its first two named storms of 2026. These storms are typically much stronger and are considered cyclones.

Last week, on Friday 23rd October, the first of the storms struck the UK. Storm Austen was the first named storm of the year. It saw winds of up to  76mph being recorded in the South of England. This storm was particularly brutal, causing flooding, power outages and saw part of Brighton’s west pier collapse.

On Saturday 24th October, a second storm struck the north of the UK and Ireland. Storm Boelo brought more damage across the country with winds of over 90mph being detected.

These storms brough significant delays across UK ports, with Liverpool and Felixstowe amongst the affected. Due to health and safety concerns, port cranes were stopped and areas of the ports nearest to the coast were evacuated.

What does this mean for cargo coming in?

As these storms continue, ports may continue to halt operations due to safety risks. This includes loading and unloading of vessels, loading of containers onto trucks and railway operations.
The port operators provide often reports as conditions change to warn of any potential delays, and our team works closely to ensure minimal delays.

At Trinity Logistics Limited, we understand how quickly changing conditions can affect international freight movements.

We encourage businesses with shipments entering the UK to remain alert to potential schedule changes, allow flexibility in their shipping plans and stay in close communication with their logistics partners.

Should there be any concerns or questions regarding how the weather may affect your business, please do not hesitate to contact our team.
